“The site did way better than the Yellow Pages.”
Dr. Cindy Feelgood, Chief Sewing Therapist and leader of the Fabriholics, Sew It Seams Sewing Studio in Creve Coeur, MO.
As a local retailer, I would never have thought my website would drive so much of my business. But while I had my store, it really did! Now, in the Sewing Studio, we offer classes only, and people sign up online.
We started with a new logo that shows exactly who I am and what the store stands for – everything fun and easy. And no hand sewing! We’re teach sewing the fun and easy, Feelgood Sewing way.
We also made up a character for me: Dr. Cindy Feelgood, your Chief Sewing Therapist. That started because I told Mary the story of one Valentine’s Day, a couple years before she started working with me. That year I gave out foil-wrapped chocolate hearts and told everyone it was their heart medicine.
As young girls have found the site, they’ve told me how much they love Dr. Cindy Feelgood. They think the whole idea is really funny. And I do too.
Mary’s breezy writing style captures the idea that these days, nobody sews to save money. We sew to be creative and have fun with fashion.
Most important, we kept our classes filled and the phones ringing because of what was happening online – both on the site and in social media.
In fact, one day a Yellow Pages rep came in about an ad. I told her the site was bringing in so many more people than they were – there was no way I was going to spend more with them!
As people figure out that the store is now the Studio, they’re also learning to look at the site for class and event information. After all, they can’t just stop in the store anymore.
One other thing– at the store, a great online presence even helped with our suppliers. The pattern company Fashion In Harmony supposedly never works with retailers. But they chose to work with our store – exclusively in the US – because they liked what they saw on our site too!
